Our patients in Guelph who are looking for anti-aging skin treatments are excited to learn about a minimally-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment called microneedling via Dermapen®. This procedure allows for the correction of mild to moderate lines, wrinkles, and acne scars without surgical incisions or any downtime.
What is Micro-Needling?
Micro-needling is a non-surgical skin rejuvenation technique in which we move a micro-needling device, called the Dermapen®, over your skin to form many tiny punctures in it. The process “tricks” your body into repairing skin by removing old skin layers and replacing them with new skin that displays fewer imperfections like lines, wrinkles, blemishes, and acne scars.
A Closer Look at the Dermapen®
The Dermapen® device utilizes needles that are sterile and individually sealed to ensure your safety and comfort. The tip of each needle is actually composed of a number of smaller needles using a special technology to vertically penetrate your skin. This forms many micro-skin channels and stimulates your skin’s ability to repair itself and form new collagen fibers.
The micro-channels created by the Dermapen® treatment process allow for up to 80 percent greater absorption of topical nutrients, feeding the skin cells found in the lower skin layers. The dramatically increased absorption of topical skin care ingredients helps stimulate repair at a cellular level and speed up the regeneration of skin cells.
Most patients in Guelph tolerate their treatment quite well. A topical numbing agent is available to ensure your comfort throughout your procedure. Although the treatment creates many punctures in the skin, these tiny channels are virtually invisible to the naked eye.
Combining Dermapen® with Other Treatments
This treatment will greatly intensify and enhance the penetration of topical skin care products like gels, ointments, creams, lotions, and serums. This is because the tiny openings created by the Dermapen® treatment process act as micro-channels, allowing topicals an improved absorption and penetration ability.
Most of our patients in Guelph benefit from a series of treatment sessions at our office. You can expect gradual improvements that build upon the results of previous treatments.
