Skin naturally loses elasticity and form as you age. This results in wrinkles, lines, creates, sagging skin and many of the other effects associated with old age.
Correcting these problems has traditionally required surgery. Fat must be adjusted under the skin, loose skin needed to be removed, and other imperfections had to be treated by invasive procedures that brought unwanted side effects like scarring and swelling.
Due to advances in cosmetic treatments, non-surgical facelifts exist in the form of SoftLifts. These facelifts can bring results similar to traditional facelifts without the need for surgery of excessive recovery periods.
What is a SoftLift?
SoftLifts utilize injectable treatments to compensate for collagen displacement and lost elasticity. They are ideal for patients whom have less prominent signs of aging.
The two main treatments used in a SoftLift are dermal fillers and BOTOX® injections. The dermal fillers will correct areas where collagen has become displaced or uneven. BOTOX® injections will treat areas where the collagen has or will become displaced as the result of repeated muscle movements.
Other treatments can be used alongside these non-surgical options, but they should be used on a case-by-case basis.
A Closer Look at Dermal Fillers
The dermal fillers in a SoftLift add volume to the face. They may even areas, add a smoother appearance to areas like the cheeks, even out the nose, or reduce the appearance of minor to moderate lines and creases.
There are two functions of dermal fillers: to add firmness to the skin, and to add fullness.
Fillers that add firmness will generally be used in the cheeks or around the jaw line. These fillers are designed to be used in larger areas where sagging tends to be more prominent.
Fillers focusing on fullness will generally be used to fix smaller lines and creases. Crow’s feet and lines around the lips tend to be examples of areas where these fillers can work best.
Understanding the Role of BOTOX® in SoftLifts
BOTOX® injections interrupt the communication between nerves and the muscles of the face. This makes it possible to treat areas where muscle contractions result in a greater appearance of lines and wrinkles.
One thing to understand about BOTOX® is that it does not directly correct physical problems with the face. It prevents the muscles of your face from making lines and other unwanted features worse, which can help dermal fillers remain longer while reducing the appearance of future creases.
Are SoftLifts for Everyone?
While SoftLifts can work wonders on your face, they are not for everyone. This non-invasive method of treating imperfections in the face has limitations with regards to what it can do.
The best way to ensure that a SoftLift is right for you is to converse with your dermatological care provider. This will ensure that you receive the results you desire.
